One of the most beautiful areas in Northern Spain’s Basque country, San Sebastian is the place to go if you’re looking to mix sandy beaches with great sights, local culinary delights and lots more. The atmosphere here is laid-back, and even though the city is home to over 183,000 people, it still has a really welcoming small-town feel.
The city is divided into a number of different neighbourhoods including Gros, Centro, Amara Viejo and more. San Sebastian also has its own ‘old town’ in the form of Parte Vieja. All of these neighbourhoods are unique offering a host of top-notch attractions, great value restaurants and cool bars.
Aquatic adventurers will delight in the surfing off Zurriola beach. Kayakers are welcome on this beach, as well as the beaches along the shell-shaped Bahía de la Concha, namely La Concha and Ondarreta beaches. The bay is book-ended by two peaks, Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo, both of which can be climbed.
Whether you’re here for the waves, the ‘pintxos’ (a local speciality) or the great annual festivals, you’ll find that San Sebastian is a real hidden gem.
